We are very supportive of any improvements to transport infrastructure which enable us to run more reliably and deliver a better service to our customers. Peak time congestion on the approaches to the city centre is a significant deterrent to using buses.
Roads in congested areas should be prioritised for buses, cycles and pedestrians as they are the most efficient use of limited space.
We know that better bus reliability generates additional patronage and this helps bus operators keep fares down and improve frequencies (resulting in further patronage growth). Frequent bus services that are unimpeded across Cambridge will make the city more accessible and an attractive place to live, work and visit.
Paws for thought
If everybody who currently drives their car in the city on weekdays travelled by bus just once a week, the number of cars on the roads would be 20% lower and similar to conditions on school holidays.
